BlackBear's Chippy started life as a spud seasoning and quietly took over everything else on the plate. Built by a NSW barbecue joint from the flavours they serve over the counter, it's the shake that makes chips taste like a Friday-night treat and makes plain veg worth going back for.
The flavour
Savoury and moreish up front, with the salted, well-seasoned tang you chase at a good chippy, then a rounded, herby finish that lifts rather than overpowers. It reads like a proper chicken-salt-style chip seasoning — designed to make potatoes sing, not shout over them.
How to cook with it
- Shower hot chips or wedges the moment they leave the oil or oven — the steam helps every grain grab on.
- Toss halved baby potatoes in oil and Chippy, then roast hard until the edges blister.
- Fold it through a potato bake between the layers for a seasoned, golden top.
- Shake over fried or scrambled eggs, buttered corn or grilled zucchini for an instant lift.
- Rogue move: dust hot buttered popcorn with it on movie night.
