Looftlighter

The original electric fire starter. No lighter fluid.

Looftlighter is the original electric fire starter from Sweden — Looft Industries was founded there in 2004 by Richard Looft, and its lighters now sell in more than 30 countries.

It started with a chicken. At his daughter's birthday barbecue, Richard's bird came off tasting of lighter fluid, so he went looking for a cleaner way to light charcoal and found nothing. His first prototype was charcoal in a bread toaster with an old vacuum cleaner blowing air through it — sparks in seconds.

No gas, no flame, no chemicals. Just superheated air that gets lump charcoal, heat beads, wood chunks and logs going in about 60 seconds — perfect for kamados, where lighter fluid isn't recommended.

Start with the Looftlighter Classic, the original one-button lighter at 650°C. Step up to the Looftlighter Pro for 760°C, HyperBoost and auto ignition, and keep either one dry in the Looftlighter Carry Case.

Looftlighter FAQs

Where is Looftlighter from?
Sweden. Looft Industries was founded there in 2004 by inventor Richard Looft, and the Looftlighter is now sold in more than 30 countries.
Which Looftlighter should I start with?
The Looftlighter Classic covers kettles, kamados, smokers and fire pits at 650°C. If you light offsets, pizza ovens or fireplaces often, the Looftlighter Pro adds 760°C air, HyperBoost and auto ignition.
How does a Looftlighter work?
It blows superheated air into your fuel. Hold the tip against charcoal, wood chunks or logs for about 60 seconds until you see sparks, then pull back a few centimetres to spread the glow. No gas, flame or lighter fluid.
Can I use a Looftlighter in a kamado?
Yes. Lighter fluid isn't recommended in ceramic kamados, and a Looftlighter uses nothing but hot air.
Can I buy Looftlighter in Australia online?
Yes. The Looftlighter Classic, Pro and Carry Case are on The Rub Hub, with flat $10 shipping Australia-wide.
