Pizza Oven Season: What to Stock Before the First Pie Goes In
⚓ SMUGGLER'S LOG — Friday night, pizza oven up to temp
Everyone's buying pizza ovens this year — Ooni, Gozney, the lot. And every single one of them gets used for garlic bread and finishing drizzles about as often as it gets used for actual pizza. Here's what's going in my crate before the oven's even hot.
A backyard pizza oven earns its keep well beyond a Margherita — garlic bread, flatbreads, roast veg, even a finishing seasoning on the crust edge. None of it needs a specialist "pizza brand" on the label. It needs the right garlic, the right heat, and something to drizzle on at the very end when the pie comes out blistered and hot.
1. A garlic and parmesan base for bread and crusts
2. A no-heat garlic option for the classics
3. A hot honey finish
4. A chilli crunch for the finishing touch
The crate, all up
Garlic and parmesan for the bread. A clean no-heat garlic option for the classics. A hot honey for sweet heat on the way out of the oven. And a chilli crunch for the finish. None of it needs to sit next to the oven itself — it just needs to be within reach when the pizza comes out.
